The use of Push technology for Learning

It is possible to populate a news paper with relevant information's compiling information very simply using push technology.

This would increase students confidence on the teacher as you are likely to be see as a cool, organised and capable teacher.

More than the image for the teacher opportunity to compile relevant information based on a feed or push technology is an extra addition while making the learning resource current and diverse.

Using Mobile Phone Technologies

The days of 'don't use mobile in class' are being replaced with student requesting "Shall I take a note" and taking snaps. Using a mobile phone sound or video can be recorded. Additionally pictures are teken extensively. The following picture show one of my student taking a picture of what is displayed on the smart board, as others are leaving the classroom. Another is preparing his mobile phone to do the same, a common seen in many classrooms, this days. The main advantage is it engages the students better as they get the opportunity to use the gadget  they love most.

Another example is the usage of sound recorder the following link is an example but the format is .m4a hence I personally can only play it on mobile phone hence I usually convert sound recorded on mobile phone to mp3 when sharing with others. On this occasion I have shared the mobile format version via the following link:

Share multi-media content using an accessible online medium, taking account of issues of inclusivity

I have used BlendSpace, Prezzi, YouTube.

My you tube channel is named KingYacob

Also the blog posts show usage of blendspace.

Examples of Prezis

All  encourage the students to access the resources at times perhaps when they are ready to play which may help some students to see it as play and create an opportunity to participate

Learners can participate in creating learning materials, commenting and engage in on-line discussion which may happen at their convenient time.

Regrading accessibility currently they all have limitation but careful planning can be improve accessibility and as it can be seen from the post below youtube accessibility can be improved by encouraging VI users using the website http://tube.majestyc.net/

My brief analysis of YouTube accessibility can be accessed from the link:

The main negative issue with social learning are:

Privacy could be jeopardised very easily. Also student can easily get destructed.

Evaluation of youtube and facebook as a social networking tool in terms of teaching and learning potential

We like it or not we currently find ourselves in a connected social Networking age. I confess I am very conscious about data protection and privacy issue exposure, and admit I am among the few people who don’t own facebook account as I am concerned about its lacks of privacy.

Even though facebook is powerful and can be effective when used correctly, I think it may have more damages because of the culture of adding private informations and photographs hence I think it has more barrier than advantage. To use facebook for learning effectively it requires students having an account which they may not be willing whereas youtube is accessible by every one easily.

However when it comes to youtube I can say I am fully immersed, used it to learn and teach many skills. I have also done few youtube publishing of my classroom lectures for my students and other audiences. I have made youtube publications on the following topics:
  • Relational Database
  • Website Design
  • Photoshop
  • Basic OR General IT

With name youtube name KingYacob

Facilities to comment could be an effective usage of communicating and discussing personally I have not encouraged my students but plan to do that in near future.

YouTube has worked and has allowed me reaching out to students who may be reluctant to read written instructions. It has created with students the feeling of being re-assured with extra resource provided. Students who may not have a  computer at home or smart phone may miss out some of the opportunities to follow the lesson from home on the Other hand  youtube can empower students to participate in the creation of learning materials as anyone with Gmail account has the opportunity to uploaded learning materials and participate  in commenting the video

Assess the accessibility of youTube

YouTube is not fully accessible for Visually Impaired users. Once it start they are able to listen if the sound is clear, they may be able to read descriptions. However in order to enhance teh accessibility of youtube the following website can be used http://tube.majestyc.net/

From teh description on the home page the website confirms

"In addition to traditional accessible design practices such as semantic, well-structured markup, high-contrast colour schemes and standards compliance, newly-available technologies such as WAI-ARIA have been implemented to allow users of assistive technologies to benefit from rich functionality such as dynamic page updates."

But it has limitation as it doesn't start automatically as videos don't auto-play however short cut is used to play the video.
